Lee Winters, the primary stockholder of her late husband's company, Winterchem Enterprises, is approached by Hubbell Smith, the new chairman of Borough National Bank, with a deal. While Borough cannot legally loan any more money to Winterchem, they would like to broker a deal for the company and another lender that would allow Winterchem to purchase a plant in Spain. Smith desperately needs this deal to save the bank from collapse, while Winters needs the plant in order to continue her investigation into her husband's death and a mysterious bank account he had uncovered. Winters eventually learns that an Arab congolomerate is behind the bank account and mistakenly believes that Smith is secretly working with them to destabilize the world economy by controlling the money supply. Riots break out across the globe as the banking system collapses, and Winters and Smith are left to start over again. |
