Overview
It's not easy to live an utterly boring and pointless life in the glittering Upper East Side precincts of New York City, but somehow office drone Paul Hackett has managed it. Terrified by the prospect of one more quiet evening at home, Paul hops on a subway to Soho to a series of very odd adventures among the downtown denizens, who seem to make an art form out of strangeness. The madcap night gets even stranger when Paul finds himself battling a couple of dope-smoking art thieves determined to make off with a terrible papier-mache sculpture. Kidnapped and driven uptown, Paul gets a last bump in the night when the van he's riding in nails a pothole and dumps him to the street -- right in front of his office building.
