John Burns is a mental patient visiting his doctor in a mental hospital. While left alone he impersonates Dr. Baird and accepts an offer to appear on the Dr. Maitlin radio talk show as an expert. After escaping the confines of the hospital, John heads to the airport and catches a flight to Los Angeles. John is escorted to the studio by Laura Rollins, Maitlin's assistant. Meanwhile, a priest with mental issues of his own pegs John as an escapee. John as Dr. Baird dispenses advice over the airwaves and is a big hit with the listening audience. When Dr. Maitlin attends a seminar and meets the real Dr. Baird they decide to confront him. John sacrifices his freedom to help the unstable priest. |
