Three women who from completely different places soon find out that there are many parts of life that are not so glamorous. Anne Welles is from New York seeking fame but ends up working as an assistant to a theatrical attorney, Henry Bellamy. They meet up with Helen Lawson who is a main part of Broadway Musical, as well as Neely O’hara, whom Lawson has recently kicked out of her show. Neely ends up finding her fame within the gigs of nightclubs, while Anne befriends a starlet called Jennifer North. The three of them soon realize that life is not all about glamor, though, as they discover the hidden part of fame; drugs, booze, and sex with men who will never love them. Each of them is affected by this discovery in different ways and follow downward spirals that leave them estranged.
