Overview
In the 1950s, Tom Ripley is working in New York as a bathroom attendant. One evening, Tom borrows a jacket with the Princeton logo and begins to play the piano at an upscale party. The rich father of a Princeton student engages in conversation with Tom, and Tom acts like he knows the man's son, Dickie Greenleaf. The man desperately wants Dickie to return home, so he offers $1,000 to Tom to travel to Italy in an attempt to convince Dickie to head back home. However, once in Italy, Tom becomes attached to both Dickie and his fiancée, Marge. As a result, he uses his talents to reap the benefits of Dickie and Marge's lavish lifestyle.
