| Overview
This miniseries in ten parts tells the complex story of several Marines who are involved in the fight against the Japanese during World War II. There is both sweeping actions as brutal battles are displayed in sickening detail and intimate moments as the soldiers develop friendships with each other that will last them throughout their lives. Of course, some of those lives will be very short, as is the way with war. Some of the Marines, however, will get a reprieve and be asked to return home in order to help the war effort by promoting the sale of war bonds so that more equipment can be made to help the soldiers prevail. The struggle of these returned soldiers is intensely personal and deeply painful. |
