Overview
Two New York detectives, Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle and Salvatore "Cloudy" Russo, work the gritty streets trying to bust a heroin ring. Following a hunch, the pair place a local candy store under surveillance while also trying to tail two European nationals they feel will lead them to the ring's kingpin, Alain Charnier. Thwarted by their own boss and the DEA, the duo continue working the case on the side, chasing their suspects through the city while attempting to avoid Charnier's henchmen. With the stash of heroin located in a rental car, they set up their suspects for a big bust. Gunfire erupts when they break in on the drug deal in a nearby warehouse. In the ensuing foot chase, a federal agent is shot while Charnier makes his escape.
