A smooth talking trickster from Florida, Thomas Jefferson Johnson, thinks he can make good money if he could get into the political arena. He decides to take the opportunity to join politics when a congressional representative, who has the same name as him, passes away, and elections are held to replace him. He puts his name, Jeff Johnson, on the ballot, which confuses enough voters that he ends up winning. In Washington, he meets Dick Dodge who becomes his mentor, and along with the help of the previous Mr. Johnson’s aide, who gives him the entire scoop on how things work, everything is going to plan. That is until he meets Celia Kirby, who is a political activist and the daughter of a religious leader. If he wants to win Celia’s heart, he has to drop his act and expose who he is for real.
