Loren Hardeman Sr., the elderly patriarch of a fictional, Ford-like automotive company, has retired from his duties, leaving the care and feeding of his company to his disinterested grandson, Loren Hardeman III. When Hardeman Sr. learns that Hardeman III intends to liquidate the floundering auto division, Hardeman Sr. attempts one last hurrah via the development of a fuel-efficient car. He enlists the help of auto racer Angelo Perino, who is kept busy in his off-hours with a string of romantic entanglements. Novelist Harold Robbins cited this as his favorite adaptation of his work. |
