A toy company looking for the next big thing decides to put military microchips into different action figures. The hope is that the new technology will allow the figures to talk and be more accessible to children. However, nothing goes quite as planned: The military chips are so advanced that they allow the toys to become sentient. A fifteen-year-old boy named Alan Abernathy is the son of a toy owner, and decides to test out these toys by pitting them against each other. But he quickly finds himself in over his head when the toys become convinced they're in the middle of a real war. Alan has to use his smarts to protect his home and defuse the war.
