Overview
The true-life story of actress Joan Crawford's parenting is shockingly displayed to a watching audience. It's not completely clear how it unfolds, but the actress who previously suffered multiple miscarriages, secures two infants for adoption. The focus is on her daughter Christina who is both lavishly provided for and cruelly scolded for not measuring up to her mother's demands. The tumultuous relationship is followed through childhood, boarding school and career issues for both mother and daughter. Christina endures violent discipline and humiliation, later learning of Joan's alcoholism and other troubles. The grown children receive a final blow when upon her death it's discovered they were cast out of their mother's will. Christina vows to get the last word by writing a book about their lives.
