An eccentric biologist named Rae Crane has been living in the rainforests of the Amazon for years studying local plants and animals in hopes that he will find a cure for cancer. His quest is driven by his experiences with a shaman years before that was able to cure an extremely malignant cancer by using flowers that grow high in the jungle canopy. He eventually comes to find that, as often occurs in science, the cure is not in the flower but in the insects that feed on it. These events all unfold under the constant threat of loggers that are making steady progress towards the village Crane is living in, which threatens to put an end to his research.
