Overview
The Eight Hundred is a Chinese war epic revolving around a regiment of war-weary Chinese soldiers defending Sihang Warehouse against the Imperial Japanese Army during the Battle of Shanghai in 1937. This film covers a part of World War II history often overlooked: the battles against Japan before the United States entered the war. In doing so, it commemorates the event some call the "Chinese Alamo" with both action and drama concerning a large cast of down-to-earth characters, spearheaded by Lao Hulu as the protagonist and Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jinyuan as the group's commanding officer.
